If you are nearsighted, farsighted, have an astigmatism, or any combination of those vision concerns, you can continue to rely on your eyeglasses or contact lenses forever, or you can take advantage of our LASIK in Philadelphia. We at IC Laser Eye Care are pleased to offer you a procedure that is highly effective, quick, and very safe. Because our ophthalmologist uses lasers to do the cutting and reshaping of your cornea, you won't have to deal with the involved recovery process that is associated with surgery. Instead, we can reshape your cornea and give you greatly improved eyesight on an outpatient basis.
Why does your cornea need to be reshaped? It's the part of your eye where light enters. Under normal circumstances, light passes through and will strike your retina directly in the center. But when your cornea is curved improperly, light instead reaches the front or back of your retina, resulting in reduced proficiency of eyesight up close, far away, or at all distances. Prescription lenses act to correct this and make light hit your retina at the point where it's supposed to. Our LASIK in Philadelphia takes a different approach, by altering your retina's curvature so that light once again finds its way to the retina at the right point.
Most patients 18 years and older qualify to have the procedure done. Our ophthalmologist will make certain with an exam and consultation that takes into account your medical history. Once you are cleared for our LASIK in Philadelphia, we will ensure that you are prepared when the scheduled date arrives. Eye drops will be used to numb your eyes and mild sedation is available if you require it. Lasers are used to open a thin flap of our cornea to gain access to the corneal tissue beneath. It is reshaped by the laser and the flap is then put back into its place.
Expect to experience a little dryness in your eyes after our LASIK in Philadelphia. We will give you eye drops to address that and also to protect against inflammation and infection. The level of success for this surgery is impressively high, around 96%. You won't need stitches or bandages. Most patients notice immediate results, the same day or the day after. You may be able to do away entirely with your eyeglasses or contacts, but at minimum you will be able to use them far less than you've been doing.
